2005
When Giff saw Butternut Farm for the first time he knew is was the perfect place for us. We had spent the last seven years in Sodus, New York, working on Giff’s family fruit farm. It seemed time for us to venture out on our own. We both attended four years at the University of New Hampshire, where we met. Giff finished with a degree in Horticulture and Agronomy and Mae with a degree in Communications. We loved this area and knew it would offer us everything we were looking for. We moved to New Hampshire in May of 2004 and spent the year of transition working outside of the farming industry. Giff spent a lot of his extra time helping at Butternut, and we took our two girls to pick almost every weekend. The farm transferred to us in January of 2005 and we moved in two weeks later.
2017
Since we have moved to the farm we have planted sweet cherries, along with more strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, peaches, and apples. These plantings are not only to replace older, tired plants but also to expand and provide more produce to our customers. We have also built the Cider House, started to produce our own hard cider, and built our crew to include many wonderful, hard working, and loyal employees. We are heading into our 13th season here. We are raising three daughters and continue to love the lifestyle farming offers. As the years go by we feel more confident in our goals and look forward to many more years of providing a great place for our customers to come and pick their fresh fruit. Thank you to all of our customers who continue to support this farm and enjoy what it is providing.
